Het psychoanalytisch proces in de kinderanalyticus
Summary
This study is based on the written reports of psychoanalytic sessions of ten child analysts with their patients during the last week before the summer break. Broadly speaking, the aim of the study was to conduct research into the mind of the child analyst: into his or her perceptions, thinking and feeling in the process of interpretation. Both quantitative and qualitative analyses were made of the extensive reports in which the psychoanalysts had mentioned: the child’s play, behavior and talk; the interaction between child and psychoanalyst; the thoughts and feelings of the psychoanalyst concerning the psychoanalytic process during and between the sessions.
One finding is that the impending holiday functioned as an organizer of the analytic material: most interpretations concerned the break. Also striking were the differences from one child analyst to the other in their qualitative and quantitative use of transference interpretations and in their conscious use of feelings evoked by the psychoanalytic work. As transference interpretations are nearly always interpretations of negative transference and the evoked feelings are mostly aggressive, the way in which aggression is handled by the analyst seems to be a characteristic of personal analysing style.
