Narcissistic themes and variations
Three recent books on narcissism and narcissistic pathology form the focus of this review-article. First come some reflections on Freuds On Narcissism. A biography of Heinz Kohut is used as an illustration of the mutual influences between individual psychodynamics and a disturbing environment in the pathogenesis of narcissistic pathology. Finally a reinterpretation of the legend of Narcissus opens new therapeutic perspectives.
