Variations in technique in the treatment of a five-year-old boy – two approaches
The authors use the model of dyadic expansion of consciousness of Harrison and Tronick and the mentalization-based approach of Fonagy and Target (as applied to child therapy by Verheugt-Pleiter et al.) in the treatment of a five-year-old boy with affect regulation problems. Although there are differences between the two approaches in the role of the therapist and the focus of therapy, the authors regard both as useful approaches.
