Hypnose in de psychoanalytische kuur
Summary
A strict distinction is made between hypnotic trance and suggestibility, trance being defined as a condition of limited awareness, which often occurs spontaneously in daily life and is artificially induced in the hypnotic séance. In psychoanalysis there is no formal induction, but the analysand is led into a trance-like state, usually without the analyst realising it. Such a state is necessary for free association. To oppose hypnosis in psychoanalysis, is to pick the wrong facet. The important question is not wether psychoanalysis is a hypnotic therapy, but whether it is a suggestive therapy. This article also proposes a distinction between the unconscious and the subconscious. Normal consciousness has no access to subconscious processes, while resistance is not involved, as is the case with unconscious (repressed) elements.
